Dear IJP Families,
My name is Dr. Wanda Murphy Fulford, and I am delighted to join the staff of Infant Jesus of Prague School (IJP) as the Principal. I am very passionate about education, and I look forward to collaborating with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality school experience. As the parent of two adult children, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are every child’s first teacher, and I believe that by working together, we can make sure that your child’s social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
Before joining IJP, I served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 35 years, primarily with the Illinois Department of Education. Some of the positions I have held included classroom teacher, special populations coordinator, K-8 assistant principal, school improvement coordinator, special education department chairperson, and principal of an alternative high school. My academic background includes a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration, Master of Science in Special Education, and a Bachelor of Arts in History/ Secondary Education.
I believe that effective schools are the results of great teachers, so my primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher. To do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their teaching, access to resources, and reaching out to parents for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure our students are prepared for high school, college, and 21st-century careers.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.
I would like to invite all school parents to our Meet and Greet on Wednesday, December 12th at 7:30 pm in the Church Hall. I am looking forward to getting to know you!
With Thanksgiving over and all the Indian and pilgrim figurines put away, our thoughts immediately turn to Christmas with all its preparations. The focus is on decorating the house and buying that perfect gift.
Nevertheless, there is an essential liturgical season often overlooked, and that is Advent. So before we plunge into Christmas, let us take time to enjoy a proper spiritual preparation for our Lord’s birth. Advent is celebrated on four Sundays, not necessarily four weeks, before the Feast of Christmas. The word, “Advent,” comes from the Latin, “to come,” and is the beginning of the Church’s liturgical year. We wait in anticipation for the coming of our Lord on December 25!
As the weather changes, please remember to have your child wear a jacket to school as we will continue to go out for recess all days that we can until the weather becomes too cold. Hats and gloves on cold days are needed as well. Encourage your child, especially the older ones, to put on their jackets before going to recess or leaving for the day.
The music program continues to flourish at IJP! We have a wonderful opportunity to perform our Christmas Concert in a great setting again this year. Our Junior, Senior, and Symphonic Bands, along with the Kingsmen Choir and Show Choir, will perform at the Marian Catholic High School Auditorium on Tuesday, December 11th at 7:00 pm. Please come and support our talented musicians.
Join us as we celebrate the season with our traditional Christmas program on Tuesday, December 18th at 10:00am and 7:00 pm. Mrs. Barnick, the IJP choirs, musicians, narrators, and all the students have been working very hard to present this year’s production. Take time to pause and reflect on the reason for the season as we await the wondrous coming of the Lord.
The PTO sponsored Christmas Pizza Lunch is Friday, December 21st. Just a reminder that the kitchen is closed on that day. Students may wear jeans, and a red, green or appropriate Christmas shirt to celebrate the last full day of the school year and the beginning of Christmas vacation. The school gym shoe policy still applies.
We will be hosting our Open House for prospective students on Thursday, January 31st during Catholic Schools Week. If you know of a family that is looking at school options for next fall, please encourage them to stop by and see what IJP has to offer.
Peace to you during this Advent Season,
Dr. Wanda Murphy Fulford
