Dear IJP Families,
The word “advent” (the arrival of an important person or thing) is derived from the Latin work “adventus”, which means “coming”. For Catholics, Advent the four-week season leading up to Christmas. During Advent we anticipate the coming of Jesus. It is a time full of reflection, excitement, and hope.
Week 1 – Hope
Dear Jesus, you are the hope in our messy world. This Advent, help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what is important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas. Amen.
I will hold you all in my thoughts and prayers this Advent season. Blessings to all!
The Catholic High School Entrance Exam is tomorrow, Saturday, 12/1. If your 8th grade child is taking the exam, remember to bring in the Release of Records form that is handed out at the end of the exam. We cannot release academic information to any high school without the signed form. This leads to delays in acceptance and scholarship decisions. Good luck to all the students!
As the weather changes, please remember to have your child wear a jacket to school as we will continue to go out for recess all days that we can until the weather becomes too cold. Hats and gloves on cold days are needed as well. Encourage your child, especially the older ones, to put on their jackets before going to recess or leaving for the day. Too many students are still coming to school in just their fleeces or sweatshirts.
Our music program continues to flourish at IJP! We have a great opportunity to perform our Christmas Concert in a wonderful setting again this year. Our Junior, Senior, and Symphonic Bands, along with the Kingmen Choir and Show Choir, will perform at the Marian Catholic High School Auditorium on Tuesday, December 11th at 7:00 pm. Please come and support our talented musicians.
Join us as we celebrate the season with our traditional Christmas program on Tuesday, December 18th at 7:00 pm. Mrs. Barnick, the IJP choirs, musicians, narrators, and all the students have been working very hard to present this year’s production. Take time to pause and reflect on the reason for the season as we await the wondrous coming of the Lord.
The PTO sponsored Christmas Pizza Lunch is Friday, December 21st. Just a reminder that the kitchen is closed on that day. Students may wear jeans, and a red, green or appropriate Christmas shirt to celebrate the last full day of the school year and the beginning of Christmas vacation. The school gym shoe policy still applies.
We will be hosting our Open House for prospective students on Thursday, January 31st during Catholic Schools Week. If you know of a family that is looking at school options for next fall, please encourage them to stop by and see what IJP has to offer.
Peace to you as we begin this Advent Season,
