September 29, 2017

Dear IJP Families,

Today, Friday, September 29th, is the first trimester Mid-Term Report. Please log in to PowerSchool this weekend to check your student’s Mid-Term Progress (Grades 1-8). Hard copies of the report will ONLY be sent home with students whose grades are in jeopardy. If you have concerns or questions, please email or call the teacher directly to set up a time to talk. Mid-Term gives everyone the opportunity to refocus and make changes before Trimester grades are recorded.  The end of the first Trimester is November 10th.

We had an awesome Homecoming Fall Spirit Week capped off by the Pep Rally this afternoon.  Please join us for the Football Homecoming games on Saturday 9/30, at Marian Catholic HS.  JV at 5:30 pm and Varsity at 7:00 pm.  Please see attached flyer.

The October Lunch Menu has been posted on the school website under the “Hot Lunch Program” tab. Please have your student’s menu selections in by Friday, September 29th at the latest.  We want to start out October lunches as smoothly as possible. You may email menus directly to Country House at You may also bring the menus to the School Office, with a check made out to Country House if you do not have your credit card on file with the company.

For one more week we will be partnering with the Office of Catholic Schools, Catholic Charities, and Soldier Field in the Soup-er Stadium Challenge. The goal is to fill every seat in Soldier Field twice with a non-perishable food item.  This will help restock the 8 Chicagoland Catholic Charities Food Pantries before the winter months. If every student, teacher, and staff in the Archdiocese brings just 1 non-perishable food item, this can be accomplished! IJP has done an amazing job so far.  If you have yet to bring in a non-perishable food item, please consider doing so next week. Here is a link to a visual online tracker of Soldier Field that shows our progress

An Excerpt from the Respect Life Committee of IJP Parish:

The Respect Life Program, sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, started in 1972 and begins anew each October -- the month set aside by the U.S. bishops as Respect Life Month.  The program promotes respect for human life in light of our intrinsic dignity as having been created in God’s image and likeness and called to an eternal destiny with him. As Christians we are called to live out this joyful truth in our thoughts, attitudes and actions

Respect Life Month begins Sunday.  The students will be working on an essay contest sponsored by Respect Life Committee through their Religion and/or Language Arts class with a due date at the end of October. Each essay will be judged on the student’s ability to articulate his/her understanding of this year’s theme “Do Not Be Afraid”, how our faith speaks to this theme (such as Bible passages), his/her own personal commitment to implementing this message, and creativity. Each grade group winner and runner-up will receive a cash prize for best essay.

Please save the date!  The Trunk or Treat Community Event will take place on Saturday, October 28th from 6-8 pm. Halloween Fun for all ages.  More information to come next week!

Just as an early reminder, we are in school on Monday, October 9th.  There is no school on Friday, October 6th due to Faculty In-Service.  Please plan accordingly and refer to the school calendar on the website.

Have a wonderful weekend and Go Kingsmen!
